Tragic new details are emerging after a woman died in a fire at a Radford bungalow

An inquest has been launched into the death of a woman following a house fire in Nottingham. Izabela Chalastra, 46, died in Nottingham City Hospital on Thursday March 7, six days after the terraced bungalow where she lived on Forster Street, Radford, burst into flames on Friday March 1.

Although emergency responders attended the incident shortly after 5 p.m., Ms. Chalastra sustained life-threatening injuries that ultimately led to her death. Coroner Sarah Wood opened an inquest into Ms Chalastra’s death at Nottingham Council House on Wednesday October 2nd.

Ms Wood said: “I confirm that, in accordance with my legal duty, I have now opened an investigation into the death of Izabela Chalastra. This hearing will now be adjourned to complete further inquiries and will resume at a specific date for a final hearing.” remains to be resolved.

“I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Izabela Chalastra.” The hearing was told that an autopsy had been carried out on the woman’s death and that the provisional cause of death was determined to be 1a multi-organ failure and 1b severe burns.

A 62-year-old man had previously been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of a police investigation into the fire. He had previously been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, released on bail and arrested again following Ms Chalastra’s death.

After a “long and complicated” investigation, he has now been released without charge. Detective Inspector Craig Hall said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family and friends of Izabela Chalastra, who sadly lost her life following a fire at her property in March this year.”

“This has been a long and complicated investigation in which we have enlisted the assistance of experts and conducted an in-depth analysis, including CCTV and forensic science. We have collected a lot of evidence and the investigation concluded that this fire was not caused by a criminal act.

“We met Izabela’s family and explained the investigation and compiled all the evidence. Family remains at the center of everything we do. She understandably wants answers to the question of how her loved one died. We have now made a report to the coroner.”
