Flack Broadcasting – LCSO: Level 2 registered sex offender jailed for sexual contact with a child in Lewis County

DIANA- A North Country resident who is already registered as a sex offender is accused of having sexual contact with a child in Lewis County, authorities report.

Joshua K. Vanweort, 28, of Harrisville, NY, was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office last Thursday. Vanweort is formally charged with one felony count of first-degree sexual abuse and one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to investigators, Vanweort is accused of having sexual contact with a five-year-old child.

The charges filed come from the town of Diana, authorities said.

The investigation began in early June, with police also using new information that had recently emerged.

Vanweort was arraigned and remanded to the county jail without bail.

Because of two prior convictions, Vanweort is officially registered as a Level 2 sex offender.
