Man who died in a road accident near Balla has been named at the scene

A man who died in a single-vehicle collision near Balla has been named locally as Nikolaj Litvinov.

Mr Litvinov, who is from Eastern Europe, was traveling on the N60 in Carrowntober Oughter, Manulla, shortly before 11pm on Tuesday, October 1, when he was hit by a car.

Emergency services were contacted immediately and attended the scene of the accident, where he died despite rescue attempts.

It is understood Mr Litvinov, who was in his 40s, had lived in Mayo for several years previously. He lived at the end of MacHale Road in Castlebar.

“He was very quiet, he kept to himself,” said one local The Mayo News.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision that killed Mr Litvinov to come forward. They are also looking for any road users with camera footage (including dashcam) who were traveling in the area at the time of the incident to provide to investigating gardaí.
