Ukrainian quartet DakhaBrakha returns to the Center for the Arts | Entertainment

DakhaBrakha was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center for Contemporary Art “DAKH” by avant-garde theater director Vladyslav Troitskyi. The theater work has left its mark on the band’s performances, as their shows were never staged without scenic effects. Having experimented with Ukrainian folk music, the band incorporated rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, creating a bright, unique and unforgettable image of DakhaBrakha.

Accompanied by traditional Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian instruments, the quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a transnational sound rooted in Ukrainian culture. At the intersection of Ukrainian folklore and theater, their musical spectrum is both intimate and exuberant, exploring the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms and inspiring cultural and artistic liberation.
