Anchorage police warned this week that a DJ and rapper charged last week with sexual abuse of a minor and other charges may have abused other minors.

Marcus Mewborn, 29, was charged Thursday with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and one count each of unlawful exploitation of a minor and possession of child pornography. The charges stem from an incident reported to police in February 2023, the department said.

Mewborn went by the stage name “DJ Marco” or “Mac,” police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said on Wednesday. Through this work, according to police, Mewborn had “access to underage girls” and investigators fear there could be additional victims.

Oistad said Mewborn “mainly did temp work and also worked as a DJ on the side.” She had no information about the years he worked as a DJ or the venues he performed at.

Oistad did not respond to questions about why police believe there may be additional victims and said they could not comment on how the victim in the case Mewborn is currently charged with came to know him.

Mewborn remained in custody at the Anchorage Correctional Complex as of Wednesday afternoon. Assistant Public Defender Timothy Ayer, who represents Mewborn, declined to comment on the case by phone.

Police asked anyone who believes they may have been a victim of Mewborn to call Detective Daniel Koch at 907-786-2477 or email him at [email protected].
