Trial against Inola pastor for child sexual abuse begins

The trial is currently underway of an Inola pastor who was charged with eight counts of indecent or indecent acts involving five girls more than four years ago.

Rogers County officials arrested Roy Shoop at his home in 2020 after they alleged he abused girls who either worked on his farm or took riding lessons from him.

The girls mentioned Wednesday were just 12 years old when they said Shoop attacked them.

Officers said they interviewed Shoop early in the investigation and he denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

News On 6 was at the jury trial Wednesday and a forensic interviewer, one of the girls, that girl’s sister and her mother testified.

There was a large group of Roy Shoop’s friends at court who supported him and prayed with him.

The forensic interviewer showed three interviews from 2020 in which three young girls said Roy Shoop sexually abused them at his home and horse ranch.

In the first video, a girl said Shoop put his hand under her shirt and touched her leg while she was riding horses when she was 10 or 11 years old.

Another told the interviewer that Shoop touched her inappropriately while riding a horse when she was 12 years old.

The third interview was with a girl who was 12 years old at the time.

Now 17, she said Shoop sexually abused her at his home in January 2020.

She said her family was very close to the Shoop family and since it happened she hasn’t been the same and it has taken away her love of riding.

This girl’s older sister, who is also one of her legal guardians, testified that the girl was upset and didn’t talk much after it happened

Shoop’s attorney questioned why the nurse didn’t take the girl to a hospital for a sexual assault evaluation.

The sister said the girl was unwilling to talk to authorities and it had traumatized her.

The victim’s mother also took the stand today, saying she confronted Shoop and his wife the day after the girl claimed she had been attacked and he offered to have coffee and talk about it.

The family then cut ties with the Shoops.

Other girls are expected to testify about their allegations this week, along with family members and a counselor.

Roy Shoop and his wife Diana are also expected to take the stand.
