Kanpur: A woman and her niece died after being hit by one speeding car near Jainpur on the Kanpur-Jhansi highway in Kanpur Dehat late Tuesday evening. The accident occurred when the woman and her niece were crossing the street to return home after dinner at a hotel. Both sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the impact and were taken to the district hospital. But despite the efforts of medical staff, doctors declared her dead.
The victims have been identified as Shanti alias Nanki Bajpai (24) and her niece Aarti (13), daughter of Ravindra, a resident of Babarpur Auraiya. Shanti’s husband Shivam Bajpai, a resident of Purani Bazar in Mangalpur city, lives on rent in Mangalpur City UPSIDC Colony in Jainpur. The family had gone to a hotel for dinner on Tuesday evening.
Around midnight, when Shanti and Aarti were crossing the road in front of a private hospital in Jainpur and Shivam was following them on a bike, the two were hit by a speeding car and seriously injured. The driver of the car fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the victims in critical condition. Akbarpur police officer Satish Kumar Singh said a search operation has been launched to arrest the driver responsible Hit and run Incident.
