Elderly man dies weeks after crash in northeast El Paso

An elderly man died in a crash in northeast El Paso in August.

The man, identified as 85-year-old Richard Carlton Wilson, died from his injuries on September 27th.

The crash occurred Aug. 17 in the 5200 block of Woodrow Bean.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Dodge Durango was stopped at a red light westbound on Woodrow Bean in the left lane at the intersection with Rushing.

A 2021 Nissan Sentra driven by Wilson was also traveling west on Woodrow Bean when he failed to control speed and struck the rear of the Dodge Durango.

Wilson was taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

His condition was initially stable, but he ultimately died from his injuries.

Police said Wilson’s failure to control speed and his alcohol consumption were contributing factors in this collision.

This is the 48th traffic fatality this year, compared to 55 at the same time last year.
