High school teacher is charged with sexual assault and internet stalking of a child

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) – A Lawrence County school teacher accused of having an “inappropriate relationship with a student” is behind bars after his arrest on multiple child sex abuse charges.

On October 1, an arrest warrant was issued for Dylan Scott Richmond on the following charges:

  • First degree sexual assault
  • Producing, directing or promoting a sexual performance by a child
  • Internet stalking of a child
  • Distributing, possessing or viewing content depicting sexually explicit conduct by a child
  • Computer exploitation of a child

He is being held at the Lawrence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Richmond was employed by the Sloan-Hendrix School District.

On Wednesday, October 2, Superintendent Clifford Rorex issued the following statement:

On Monday, September 9, the Sloan-Hendrix administration was informed that a teacher was engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student. School officials immediately placed the teacher on leave and notified law enforcement. The child abuse hotline and the Professional Licensure Board were also notified of the allegations. Based on the district’s investigation, the Sloan-Hendrix School Board recommended termination of the teacher’s contract. The teacher is entitled to a hearing before the board. This procedure is required by law before further action can be taken. School officials are limited in providing further details but can say the teacher will not be returning to campus. School employees are always expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner, and the district will not tolerate behavior by employees that harms a student. The Sloan-Hendrix School District will continue to do its best to provide a safe and healthy educational environment for students.
