This year's Bake Off is the most shocking series yet

The Great British Bake Off is a TV highlight for me every year. There’s nothing better than curling up on a cool fall evening and watching all the action in that famous white tent.

But my goodness, we’re only two episodes in The Great British Bake Off 2024 and already this series seems to be more dramatic than ever – and I love it!

This week’s episode (take note if you’re reading from the US and still waiting to see the second episode of The Great British Baking Show – you may want to come back and read this at the end of the week) saw two contestants collapse and one eliminated from the competition…that’s a lot of drama for a show that some people mistakenly think is all about Cake!

In the first episode, which aired on Tuesday September 24th in the UK (or Friday September 27th on Netflix if you’re in the US), we saw Jeff feeling unwell and the second Missed half of the show, meaning no one left the tent at the end of the episode.

But while he was back in the tent and looking better at the start of the second episode on Tuesday, October 1, things quickly went downhill for the lovable New Yorker and he started complaining about feeling unwell again before heading out and the Left show.

Speaking about his departure, Jeff said: “This time it just wasn’t right for me. I really enjoyed it, everyone was wonderful, there’s a great group of bakers in there. Okay, I didn’t make it very far, but here we go.

Next to fall ill was Norfolk midwife Illiyin. She had just finished her showstopper when she suddenly complained of feeling faint and before anyone could react, she was on the floor surrounded by paramedics.

Illiyin bravely made amends by being attended to off-camera, and instead presenter Noel had to step in and show off his Illiyin impression at its best by presenting their cake to Paul and Prue for judging.

But just when we thought that was a lot of drama for one episode, even Dylan fell, prompting Andy to point out that everyone was “dropping like flies!”

Luckily Dylan fell off his chair while reaching for his water bottle, so nothing happened… but what an episode! I can’t wait to tune in next week and see what happens next, but one thing is for sure: Cookie Week 2024 is happening Bake History as one of the best!
