Lorraine Kelly reprises Masked Singer owl performance on 40th anniversary show

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly reprized her Masked Singer performance of Kylie Minogue’s ‘Padam Padam’ while dressed as an owl in a special episode of daytime talk show ‘Lorraine’ to celebrate her 40th anniversary on television.

The 64-year-old was surprised outside her dressing room at the start of the show by a brass band and presenters Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard and led into the studio, where she was surrounded by family and friends wearing T-shirts with her face on.

The show featured numerous guests including Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s Holly Johnson, Kelly’s favorite singer, former GMTV colleague Kate Garraway and Lorraine’s brother Graham Kelly, who she said was “terrible” to her as a child.

Speaking about the special episode and an upcoming documentary about her career, the Scottish presenter said: “It will be so nice to show Billy (her granddaughter). When she’s old enough, I can do that just as well as the documentary tonight.”

“I can actually show it to her, it will be like the most amazing photo album, it just feels like it just flew by.”

“I’ve been so incredibly lucky because, especially with the people I work with, all these incredible people, my amazing team, it’s a joy to go to work every morning, an absolute joy.”

As the show came to an end, Kelly ran off set early to change into her owl costume before returning to sing the song she sang on the ITV singing show, which she described as a “career highlight” as she laughed , jumped up and…down and hooted.

This came after Kelly’s brother said she was “full of energy” as a child.

He said: “I remember her always being out and about, just full of energy, whether it was in ballet class when she was younger or later as a school prefect.”

“You’ll see a lot of pictures, and yes, great pictures, some of them are famous in her book where she looks a little demonic, but this was very unusual.”

She added: “I was terrible to you because you were just an angel.

“I was six when Graham came and I was a spoiled princess and then he came and he was the most beautiful baby you’ve ever seen in your life, big blue eyes, chubby cheeks you wanted to bite, and…”I think I did it badly.”

Interviews with friends and colleagues were interspersed with clips of Kelly giving talks over the decades, including the various breast cancer campaigns she has led, which she called one of the things she was “most proud of” in her career.

Women affected by the campaigns were then brought out, with one named Charlotte telling Kelly: “You saved my life.”

The Glasgow-born broadcaster was also joined by Garraway, who spoke about how Kelly had helped her at GMTV, where the pair worked together between 2000 and 2010, despite things being “chaotic” in their shared dressing room.

She told Kelly: “I remember being a big fan of Lorraine. One of the most exciting things for my mom when I joined was when I found out I was using her dressing room, I was so excited.

“I remember a time when I was pregnant with Darcey. You came into the locker room and I was lying on the floor because I had a gap while you were on the air before a meeting and you were like, for God’s sake, this is ridiculous.

“And I thought because I was making this place worse, you were worried about me and organized a sofa for our shared dressing room, it was tiny.

“They said, ‘If you ever need to lay down,’ and that’s what makes her so professional, but also just like you see on screen, she always looks after everyone else, and I’ve never forgotten that. “

In other humorous moments from the show, Ben Shephard talked about jokingly inviting Kelly to bed him on a live broadcast and Kelly recalled the time her daughter Rosie Kelly-Smith met Westlife singer Brian McFadden didn’t let go during an interview.

She began her journalism career at the East Kilbride News but turned down a place at university to study English and Russian to work at the newspaper before joining BBC Scotland as a researcher in 1983.

In 1984 she joined TV-am as an on-screen reporter, covering Scottish news. In 1990, she began her career as a presenter on Good Morning Britain before landing her own show, Lorraine, in 2010.

A special documentary about her career, Lorraine Kelly: 40 Unforgettable Years, airs tonight at 9pm on ITV1, while tonight’s episode of Lorraine also celebrates her career from 9am.
