Odds for the next fired NFL coach: The favorite Doug Pederson (+100)

Doug Pederson publicly called out his team in Sunday’s press conference after the loss to the Houston Texans.

Unfortunately for the Super Bowl-winning head coach, things didn’t work out in Jacksonville. Trevor Lawrence is an extremely talented quarterback, but in the fourth year of his career he has to complete more than 53% of his passes. Lawrence has consistently missed downfield throws that would have changed the Jaguars’ game all year, and we’re only in Week 4.

The play in the trenches isn’t great, as Jacksonville ranks near the bottom of the league in pass blocking rate and win rate, as well as pass rushing rate and win rate. More talent would help, but this was the year the Jaguars were supposed to break through. Doug Pederson’s days in Jacksonville are likely numbered after he stumbled last week, missed a division title last year and failed in the playoffs the year before.

Next NFL Coach Fired: Best Bet: Mike McCarthy (+600)

The Dallas Cowboys have looked lazy this season.

Mike Zimmer’s defense gave up a total of 464 rushing yards against the Saints and Ravens. Additionally, Dallas fell behind 28-6 early in the fourth quarter of its Week 3 contest with the Ravens after being shut out by the Saints the week before. Their defensive line is in shambles, players are constantly out of position, and they have few significant options at linebacker. Dallas was saved in Week 4 by poor play from Daniels Jones as he failed to hit Malik Nabers for a game-winning touchdown. The Cowboys defense is in trouble.

McCarthy’s offense ran hot and cold early in the season. But the Cowboys’ roster is littered with playmakers on both sides of the football. So there is no reason why Dallas loses football games this way. If these mistakes and overall poor play continue for another week or two, it won’t be long before owner Jerry Jones makes the decision. Could Jones lure Lincoln Riley to Dallas?
