GREENEVILLE – The body of Boone McCrary, 32, of Greeneville, was recovered today from a creek that flows into the Nolichuckey River near W. Allen’s Bridge Road in Greeneville. A search team found McCrary’s body around 2 p.m. on October 1, 2024.

The incident occurred Friday evening when McCrary, a roommate and a Labrador retriever threw a boat into the river near Bird’s Bridge shortly after 7 p.m. The boat was thrown into the bridge and capsized, causing the occupants to fall into the water. The occupant was rescued safely, but McCrary, his dog and the boat were carried downstream by the raging river current.

On Sunday afternoon, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) officers located and retrieved the boat and dog. Unfortunately the dog did not survive.

TWRA extended prayers and condolences to McCrary’s family and loved ones. The incident remains under investigation.
