RB Leipzig vs Juventus: Preview, predictions and lineups

Thiago Motta’s Juventus will be hoping to build on their impressive Gameweek 1 victory over PSV Eindhoven when they face Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

Juve have impressed in the first few weeks of Motta’s tenure at the club, remaining unbeaten in Serie A and not conceding a single goal domestically. Their best performance so far in 2024/25 undoubtedly came in the Champions League, where they comfortably defeated an in-form PSV 3-1 at the Allianz Stadium.

Next up is a trip to the Red Bull Arena to take on a talented RB Leipzig side. Marco Rose’s men have shown good form in the Bundesliga and are currently third in the league, but were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Atletico Madrid in their opening Champions League game.

Here is 90 minutes Guide to RB Leipzig vs Juventus in the Champions League.

Wednesday’s game comes a little early for Assan Ouedraogo and Kevin Kampl, who are both expected to return from injury in mid-October, while fellow midfielder Xaver Schlager will be out until January with a cruciate ligament injury.

In better news, ex-Napoli player Elijf Elmas is expected to recover from a blow in time to return to action in the game – although he is unlikely to start.

Predicted line-up of RB Leipzig against Juventus (4-4-2): Gulacsi; Geertruida, Orban, Lukeba, Space; Baumgartner, Haidara, Vermeeren, Simons; Sesko, Openda.

Long-term absentee Arkadiusz Milik is expected to remain out this midweek, as is Timothy Weah, who is struggling with an ankle injury.

Aside from these two absences, Juve can actually provide a full health certificate before the game, which will be music to Motta’s ears.

Predicted lineup of Juventus against RB Leipzig (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Gatti, Bremer, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Fagioli; Gonzalez, Koopmeiners, Yildiz; Vlahovic.

Both teams start this game in pretty good form and both teams have plenty of match winners that could get them all three points – Kenan Yildiz and Xavi Simons are perhaps the two big standouts.

However, Juve’s games against top rivals – AS Roma and Napoli – ultimately ended in goalless draws, with Motta preferring to settle for a point rather than lose all three.

Expect a similar approach on Wednesday, but perhaps with a few goals (hopefully).

Prediction: RB Leipzig – Juventus 1:1
