Unalaska 2024 local election – preliminary results

Polls are closed and preliminary results are in for the 2024 Unalaska municipal election.

With 23 absentee ballots and question papers still uncounted, only one of Unalaska’s races is too close to officially call.

Incumbent Shari Coleman retained her seat on the City Council. She defeated her opponent Abe Palmer with 59.5% of the vote.

Incumbent Alejandro “Bong” Tungul ran unopposed to retain Seat F on the City Council. Since Coleman and Tungul both currently sit on the city council, this means there will be no change to the composition of the city council.

The race for School Board Seat A is too close, but incumbent Kerry Mahoney is ahead with about 53% of the vote in preliminary results. She was running against Ryan Humphrey, who has 46%. If the 23 remaining people polled, absentee ballots and early ballots go to Humphrey, the race would end in a tie. The city’s Board of Elections will count those ballots Friday morning.

KUCB will bring you the final results of the 2024 local elections after city officials review mail-in ballots and surveyed ballots.
