(CBS DETROIT) – Police are investigating after a 5-year-old girl and an adult were shot Tuesday on Detroit’s west side.

Detroit police said a patrol car was on the run in the area of ​​Plainview Avenue when a ShotSpotter alert notified police of 13 shots fired in the 9300 block. Officers found no one, but did find casings.

During this investigation, police learned that a five-year-old girl was in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

A hospital examination revealed the child was in the area of ​​Plainview Avenue. Police learned the child was in a car when she was shot, and her family took her to the hospital.

According to police, a man then went to the DPD’s sixth precinct and reported that he had been shot in the right shoulder. He claimed he was in the same area where the five-year-old was shot.

“We are tired of coming to these scenes where these children are being shot.
