Mail delivery suspended in Kansas neighborhood after two men attacked mail carrier

WICHITA, Kansas – Mail delivery was suspended in a Kansas neighborhood after two men attacked a mail carrier who used pepper spray to deter large dogs from chasing him.

Residents of the 41 affected addresses in Wichita must now pick up their mail at the nearest post office, said Paul Shade, spokesman and inspector for the U.S. Postal Service.

Police responded to a battery call on Sept. 21 and found the carrier had facial injuries, police spokesman Juan Rebolledo said.

The worker was chased by two dogs while delivering mail. After using pepper spray, he ran back to his vehicle but was then chased by two men who attacked him, Shade said.

“Luckily our shipper will be OK,” Shade said.

The police are looking for the men, but there have been no arrests so far. The mail stop will remain in place until the situation is resolved, Shade said.
