Suspect who fatally stabbed a 60-year-old man was arrested over a month later

CINCINNATI (WXIX) — A Walnut Hills murder suspect who was on the run for over a month was arrested Tuesday, according to Cincinnati police.

Eugene Johnson, 61, is accused of fatally stabbing 60-year-old William Hawkins, Cincinnati police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham wrote in a news release.

In August, around 1:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to Gilbert Avenue for a report of a stabbing.

When they arrived, they found Hawkins with a stab wound and transferred him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He died of his injuries a few days later.

On September 19, police sent out a news release identifying Johnson as a suspect in the murder.

He was arrested by Cincinnati police with assistance from the Fugitive Apprehension Squad.

Details about why Johnson allegedly stabbed Hawkins are still unknown.
