The Series 10 is powered by the new S10 SiP. Apple hasn’t given specifics on how much faster it is compared to the S9 and earlier. But it says it is specifically designed for β€œperformance, energy efficiency and intelligence.”

At its launch, Apple suggested the S10 would offer better experiences with machine learning tasks, on-device Siri, health features, and features like Apple Watch’s double-tap controls.

If you’re coming from the Series 7, you may notice a difference in speed and performance.

Two more advantages compared to the Apple Watch 8 or earlier: you get a memory expansion to 64 GB and the ultra-wideband Gen 2 chip with Series 10, which enables precise search.

Housing and display

The Apple Watch Series 10 introduces new sizes for wearables that feature the largest displays and thinnest designs.

The 46 and 42mm cases offer up to 30% more screen real estate compared to the Series 6, according to Apple. This means you get an additional line of text on the display, and on the 46mm Series 10, you get a display that even even smaller is even larger than the 49mm Apple Watch Ultra/2.

Both the Series 10 display and body feature rounded corners for a softer and slimmer feel. Interestingly, Apple has slightly enlarged the display frame on the Series 10.

In terms of thickness, Apple states that the Series 10 is almost 10% thinner than the Series 7-9:

The Apple Watch 10 is twice as bright as the Series 7 at up to 2,000 nits and another new feature is the wide-angle OLED display, which delivers a screen up to 40% brighter when viewed from the side.

Compatibility with Apple Watch bands

Apple points out: β€œMost bands can be combined with any Apple Watch Series 3 or later case of the same size.”

Battery life and charging

Apple has improved charging with the Series 10. It can be charged from 0 to 80% in just 30 minutes. In comparison, series 7-9 took 45 minutes.

Apple Watch features

New to the Apple Watch Series 10 are sleep apnea notifications (although these will be available with an update for the Series 9 and Ultra 2).

With the Series 10 you also get on-device Siri, Siri+Health, accident detection and double-tap gesture controls.

You can also play audio directly through the wearable’s speaker, and the Series 10 includes features from the Ultra 2 – the water depth gauge and the water temperature sensor.

As with the Series 9 and Ultra 2, the blood oxygen feature is not available on the Series 10 in the US. This is a lost feature compared to the Series 7.

For the Series 10, Apple switched from stainless steel to Grade 5 titanium for the high-end models.

The base models retained the aluminum, but now the case has a deep black, polished finish.
