Firefighters honored after tragic death during Hurricane Helene

SALUDA COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — On Tuesday, the firefighters who lost their lives while responding to Hurricane Helene will be honored.

Many people remember Landon Bodie and Chief Chad Satcher.

Satcher and Bodie will be transported from Newberry County Memorial Hospital to Milton Shealy Funeral Home.

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and Saluda County Sheriff’s Office are escorting the convoy.

Bodie and Satcher were driving along Beulah Road in Saluda County when a large tree fell on their truck.

The crash caused one of their phones to send a crash notification to other firefighters, telling them that a crash had occurred.
