Cumberland man arrested on assault charges following altercation

CUMBERLAND, Md. – A 23-year-old man was arrested Monday following an attack at a residence on Springdale Street, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Officers responded to the 200 block of Springdale Street after receiving a report of an assault. When they arrived, they encountered several people engaging in a verbal argument outside the apartment. Authorities separated the individuals and spoke with the victim, who said she was suffocated during an argument in the home.

Following an investigation, 23-year-old Alex Corbin Lemmon of Cumberland was arrested and charged with first and second degree assault.

Lemmon was made his first appearance before a District Court officer and is currently being held without bail at the Allegany County Detention Center.

    FREDERICK, Md. – Frederick Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Anastasia Giles, an 18-year-old woman who has been missing since September 26th.

    Giles is described as 5 feet 2 inches tall, 115 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen in Frederick, police said.

    Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to contact Frederick police at 301-600-2102. Authorities are appealing for help to ensure their safe return.

  • A truck accident on I-68 leads to a road closure in Cumberland

    CUMBERLAND, Md. – A section of westbound Interstate 68 was closed for over an hour Monday evening after a semi-truck blocked the roadway, according to Cumberland police.

    Officers responded to the scene of an accident near Beall Street around 9:30 p.m., where the truck driver said he lost control due to weather conditions. The driver was taken to a nearby medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries.

    The roadway remained closed for approximately 90 minutes while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
