The U.S. Department of Transportation is directing transit agencies to reduce the risk of attacks on workers

Citing a “significant and ongoing security risk at the national level,” federal transportation officials have ordered transit agencies to assess how well their workers are protected from attacks.

More than 700 agencies, including the MTA, have three months to determine the likelihood of attacks on public transit vehicles and facilities and, if the threat is high, identify ways to mitigate the risk. Transit agencies serving urban areas with populations greater than 200,000 must involve labor when conducting these assessments.
