The Dalton Mesarchik case will air on The Steve Wilkos Show – Shaw Local

A Streator case will receive national attention on an episode of The Steve Wilkos Show on Friday, October 4th.

Dalton Mesarchik’s mother, Michelle, and his older sister, Deana, traveled in February to record an episode of the series about Dalton’s unsolved murder. The two appeared on The Steve Wilkos Show back in June 2016, where Deana took a lie detector test to prove to the public that she was not involved in her brother’s murder – she passed.

The episode, titled “My Baby Was Murdered, Leave Me Alone,” will air this Friday, according to the website.

Mesarchik was 34 days away from his eighth birthday when he disappeared from his family’s fenced-in porch in Streator around 7:15 p.m. on March 26, 2003, waiting for a ride to Bible study.

According to news reports at the time, police responded to the scene with bloodhounds 45 minutes after he was reported missing. The church driver had a family emergency out of state. The family said they had not been notified.

Mesarchik was found less than 24 hours after he was reported missing by a fisherman around 11:30 a.m. March 27 in the Vermilion River south of Streator in Livingston County.

The murder weapon, a three-pound Benchtop Pro sledgehammer – available only at Kmart – was found a few miles from the river in a steel trash container behind the Polish National Alliance hall. At the time, press reports said that the hammer had Mesarchik’s blood on it and that the hammer was undergoing further forensic testing.

The FBI and ISP encourage the public to submit information via Tips.fbi.gov or 312-421-6700 (also anonymously).

A Justice for Dalton Mesarchik Facebook page has also been created.
