Longtime WT professor arrested for indecent assault and banned from campus

A longtime West Texas A&M professor was arrested for indecent assault and banned from campus.

Dr. Nabarun Ghosh, a biology professor, was arrested on two counts of indecent assault.

According to court documents obtained by ABC 7 NewsGhosh touched the anus and genitals of two victims on Sept. 11 “with the intent to arouse or satisfy (his) sexual desire.”

An arrest warrant was issued on Wednesday. Ghosh surrendered the next day.

We contacted Chip Chandler, director of university communications and media relations, to ask if the university had a statement on Ghosh’s arrest and employment status.

“Ghosh is not employed by the university. We do not comment on personnel matters or ongoing investigations,” Chandler said.

Ghosh has worked for the university for 24 years.

Chandler would not say whether Ghosh was employed at the time of the alleged assaults or whether they occurred on campus.

But at least one of the victims is a WT student.

Under the terms of Ghosh’s bail, he is not allowed to have contact with the victims or go within 200 feet of their home, workplace or school.

The bail conditions also state that Ghosh cannot travel further than 200 feet from the campus.
