It was an otherwise ordinary suburban home in Maryland, USA, its exterior decorated with a mix of white paint, red brick, and scattered green leaves. But beneath the surface of this quiet neighborhood apartment lurked a strange secret project; the brainchild of a highly intelligent, wealthy and deeply paranoid man named Daniel Beckwitt.

Beckwitt was struck by personal tragedy in his life and became obsessed with his own mortality and the possible outbreak of nuclear war. And so he set out on the elaborate and expensive mission of turning his home into a fortress.

His money, his personality and his growing popularity on the Internet would attract others to his cause. They would also lead to a terrible tragedy.

On today’s episode of The Indo Daily, host Dave Hanratty is joined by New York-based freelance journalist William Brennan, who spent a year investigating the events that took place in a building that later became known as the “House of Horrors.”
