Madras HC seeks list of criminal cases against Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation

The Madras High Court on Monday, September 30, directed the Tamil Nadu government and the state police to collect details of criminal cases registered against Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation. The court was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by a 69-year-old man alleging that his two daughters were being held captive at the Isha Foundation.

Although the two women appeared in court and stated that they were at the Isha Foundation of their own volition, the court decided to investigate further and said it had certain doubts about the case. “We want to know why a person who married his daughter and made her comfortable in life encourages other’s daughters to tonsure their heads and lead the life of a hermit,” the court said. The court spoke about Jaggi Vasudev and his daughter Radhe, a professional dancer.

Justices SM Subramaniam and V Sivagnanam were hearing the habeas corpus petition filed by S Kamaraj, retired professor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He alleged that his daughters – Geetha Kamaraj @ Maa Mathi (42) and Latha Kamaraj @ Maa Maayu (39) – were kept as prisoners by the Isha Foundation. He also added that “certain people” were brainwashed and converted into monks and were not allowed to meet their family members.

Furthermore, Kamaraj had also pointed out that a doctor working with Isha Foundation was arrested in a POCSO case. On September 6, S. Saravanamoorthy, who was part of a team of mobile medical units run by the Isha Foundation, was booked for allegedly sexually harassing 12 students during a medical camp at a government school in Thondamuthur.

Kamaraj’s lawyer also argued that there were further criminal proceedings against the foundation.

According to a Both women appeared in court and said they had not been detained against their will. However, the court decided to investigate further, saying: “Given the seriousness of the allegations made against the institution and the manner in which those arrested have spoken before us, we may come to the opinion that further consideration is necessary.” to understand the truth behind the allegations.”

Accordingly The Hindu Report wanted to know what the court’s doubts were, advocate K Rajendra Kumar said. The judges said they wanted to know why Jaggu Vasudev, a person who married his daughter and gave her a good life, encouraged the daughters of others to tonsure their heads and lead the life of a hermit. When the lawyer said that adults were free to choose their own path, the court remarked, “You won’t understand because you appear for a particular party.” But this court is neither for nor against anyone. We just want to do justice to the litigants before us.”

When the women intervened to give their statements, the bench had also said, “They claim to be on the path of spirituality. Don’t you think neglecting your parents is a sin? “Love all and hate none” is the principle of devotion, but we could see so much hatred for your parents in you. You don’t even speak to her respectfully.”

The court then directed Kamaraj to submit the details of the criminal cases registered against the institution and directed Additional Public Prosecutor E. Raj Thilak to collect all the details of the cases registered against the Isha Foundation. The case was adjourned to October 4 for hearing.
