Utica man arrested for attempted assault with a baseball bat

UTICA, NY – On the evening of September 28, 2024, at approximately 8:25 p.m., Utica Police responded to a report of a man attempting to attack people with a baseball bat in the 700 block of Court Street.

Upon arrival, officers interviewed several people who then referred them to the suspect. The suspect, Dennis Leavitt, 69, of Utica, was arrested without incident. Police found the baseball bat in Leavitt’s vehicle nearby.

Leavitt was taken to the Utica Police Department and charged with crimes related to the incident. Further details about the specific charges have not yet been announced.

Baltimore, MD – A Baltimore woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting earlier this month in the city’s West District. Authorities have identified the suspect as 38-year-old Teresa Collins.

The incident occurred Sept. 22 in the 2700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, where Collins allegedly shot 33-year-old Jasmine Simuel. According to investigators, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene following the shooting. No further details about the motive or events leading up to the shooting were released.

After an investigation, investigators located and arrested Collins on September 26. She was taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility and formally charged with first-degree murder. Collins is currently being held without bail while the case continues in court.
