Detroit-area teen girl charged with stabbing sister

TAYLOR, MI – A 13-year-old girl is charged in connection with the stabbing death of her 7-year-old sister by Taylor.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the fatal stabbing occurred Saturday afternoon at a home in the 14200 block of Banner Avenue, near Telegraph Road and Chestnut Street.

According to prosecutors, officers discovered the seven-year-old girl had multiple stab wounds and took her to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

The teen, who is being charged as a juvenile, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder, aggravated murder and first-degree child abuse.

If the teen is convicted and sentenced as a juvenile, Michigan officials would have seven years for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation until her mandatory release at age 21.

“There is absolutely no doubt that the facts in this case are horrific,” said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. “It is beyond disturbing that the suspect responsible for the stabbing of her seven-year-old sister is thirteen years old.”

Prosecutors said the parents left the two girls home alone Saturday morning. The girls then got into an argument and the teen waited in the bathroom until her younger sister came in and then stabbed her multiple times with a knife, according to prosecutors.

According to prosecutors, the teen called 911 after the attack.

Worthy said her office considered charging the teen as an “adult,” meaning a judge would have more sentencing options if convicted, but opted to keep her in the juvenile system to have a chance at rehabilitation.

“Hopefully then she will not pose a danger to others,” Worthy said in a statement. “While this is a difficult decision given these facts, it is the right decision in this case.”
