Dead baby found in bathroom of Financial District restaurant

A dead baby was found in the bathroom of a restaurant in Manhattan’s financial district Monday morning, police said.

The child’s body – whose gender and age were not immediately known – was discovered just before 10 a.m. in the restroom of Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine on Fulton Street near Gold Street downtown, police and sources said.

Police responded to a 911 call and found the baby unconscious and unresponsive, authorities said.

According to police, the infant was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by emergency services.

The circumstances surrounding the baby’s death are under investigation and it was not immediately known whether foul play was suspected.

There were no arrests.
