Cumberland police arrest an 18-year-old for assault on a juvenile

CUMBERLAND, Md. – An 18-year-old man was arrested Sunday night after he allegedly attacked two juveniles on Pear Street, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Officers responded to a call around 6:45 p.m. and learned that Alex Brady Unger of Cumberland was intoxicated and had assaulted the two minors. A witness provided cell phone footage that showed Unger attacking one of the teens, police said.

Officers found the victims had minor injuries. Based on the video and their investigation, the police filed charges and issued an arrest warrant for Unger.

Unger was located and arrested without incident. He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center for processing and later appeared before a county court commissioner. Unger was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Unger is charged with two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of alcohol endangerment.

  • New Rochelle police officers walk 5 kilometers in memory of 9/11 victims

    NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A group of New Rochelle police officers participated in a 5K run to honor those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attacks, the department announced Monday. The event served as a tribute to the victims and first responders who died during the World Trade Center tragedy.

    In a statement shared on social media, the department said officers ran to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served during the attacks. “Every step was a tribute to the courage, sacrifice and resilience of those who served and those lost on that tragic day,” the statement said.

    The officers’ run is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that the legacy of the victims and heroes of 9/11 is never forgotten. Police stressed the importance of honoring the memory of the fallen through community participation and memorial activities.

    The department did not provide further details about the event, but noted that the run was symbolic of its ongoing commitment to remember the victims of September 11, 2001.

    The 5K run is one of several activities the community is planning to mark the anniversary of the attacks.

  • Traffic delays continue in Albemarle County following Tropical Storm Helene

    ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. – Several roads in Albemarle County remain closed Monday morning as crews respond to damage caused by Tropical Storm Helene, according to local authorities.

    The Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) issued multiple traffic alerts beginning at 7 a.m. and noted closures due to debris, flooding and power outages. The 2400 block of Castle Rock Road is closed after asphalt was washed out by the storm. Floodwaters have forced the closure of the 6500 block of Plank Road at Miller School Road.

    Further along Plank Road, the 5900 block is also closed due to mud and debris. Additionally, downed power lines have resulted in the closure of Carrsbrook Drive from Seminole Trail to Indian Springs Road.

    Officials urged motorists to avoid flooding and obey all road closures. “Please exercise caution when driving on roads,” the ministry said in a statement. For current information, motorists are encouraged to visit www.511Virginia.org.

    Emergency services continue to respond to numerous calls related to the storm.
