Two arrested in CNMC case for assault on doctor: Police

Police arrested two people for allegedly attacking and threatening doctors and nurses at the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMC) in Kolkata, an official said on Monday (September 30, 2024).

“The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday (September 29, 2024) when a patient along with his family members reached the hospital with an injury on his hand,” the official said.

The trouble began when the interns at the hospital’s emergency room ordered immediate surgery, which the patient and his family members refused to accept and continued to push them for other forms of treatment.

“The doctors were insulted and then attacked after they refused to treat the patient differently,” the official said.

“An FIR was lodged at Beniapukur police station and two persons were subsequently arrested,” he added.
