Fired employee accused of setting fire to downtown Augusta hotel

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A recently fired employee has been accused of setting fire to the America’s Best Value Inn in downtown Augusta, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning.

At 11:26 p.m. on Sept. 29, a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office detective was patrolling downtown when he noticed the America’s Best Value Inn, 441 Broad Street, on fire.

Further investigation led to the arrest of a recently fired employee, who authorities said was located and charged with first-degree arson.
