Floyd Schofield Jr. will move up in class for his next fight as he looks to gain a foothold in the lightweight division.

The undefeated 22-year-old will face Mexican Rene Tellez Giron on November 2nd in a DAZN show. A venue has not been announced, although The Ring has learned it will land at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

Schofield (17-0, 12 knockouts) will fight for only the second time in 2024, but will be entirely at the mercy of others. “Kid Austin” was scheduled to face H20 Sylve at the scheduled Mike Tyson-Jake Paul Netflix event on July 29 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. However, the show was postponed until November 15th due to Tyson being hospitalized earlier this summer.

Sylve’s team has selected another opponent to appear at a DAZN Pay-Per-View event in Tampa, Florida. It backfired miserably, as Lucas Bahdi (17-0, 15 KOs) was the leading contender for the Knockout of 2024.

Since Sylve is supported by Most Valuable Promotions, only his place would have been secured for the new date. Schofield and Golden Boy Promotions therefore continued their efforts to further the career of the Austin, Texas-based lightweight.

Giron (20-3, 13 KOs) is a proven spoiler with a reliable chin.

The 25-year-old from Queretaro, Mexico, has rattled off three straight wins since his heartbreaking majority decision loss to Jose Matias Romero in Argentina last June. Recent rounds have included an eight-round unanimous decision over George Acosta at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas. Giron also inflicted the first defeat of his career on former amateur star Karlos Balderas.

The win over Balderas came six months after Giron dropped an eight-round decision to Michel Rivera in June 2019. Both boxers were undefeated at this point. His only other loss came in January 2022 against then-undefeated Giovani Cabrera.

Schofield last fought at this venue on March 16 in a fifth-round disqualification loss to Esteuri Suero. This fight was intended to be an increase in competition, but Suero refused to fight within the rules during their brief affair.

This opportunity will mark Schofield’s third headliner since signing a co-promotional deal with Golden Boy in 2022. Last July in San Antonio, he won a show originally scheduled for the three-times-cancelled WBA welterweight title fight between Eimantas Stanionis and Vergil Ortiz.

The Ring has learned that super middleweight contender Bektemir “Bek The Bully” Melikuziev (14-1, 10 KOs) will appear on the show. The plan is for the 2016 Olympics silver medalist to end up in a WBA title eliminator, depending on the opponent secured.
