Summerville man dead after workplace accident Friday in Goose Creek: BCCO

A man has died after a fatal accident at an industrial facility in Goose Creek, the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office said.

The coroner’s office identified the man as 61-year-old Daniel E. McCoy of Summerville. McCoy worked for Century Aluminum, a global metals and mining company.

McCoy fell 15 feet at the company’s Mt. Holly facility in Goose Creek. He was transported by emergency services after the fall with traumatic injuries and died in hospital.

The case is being investigated by OSHA and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.

Century Aluminum’s Mt. Holly plant employs approximately 460 people and is the most modern plant of its kind, according to the company’s website.
