Suicide: Tragic family death in Kochi: Suicide linked to financial difficulties | Kochi News

Kochi: The Ernakulam rural police, which is probing the deaths of three family members in Angamaly, said the couple planned to end their lives and that of their two children.
Sanal Sasikumar (39) and his wife Sumi Sanal (37) were found dead in their home on September 27. Sanal was found hanging while Sumi was charred. Her four-year-old son, who suffered severe burns, succumbed to his injuries the following day, while the older child, aged 11, escaped with minor injuries. The younger child had suffered 100% burns and was placed on a ventilator due to the burns in the intensive care unit of a private hospital.
“Financial constraints appear to be the cause of this tragedy. According to the older child, the family went out to dinner that night and then went to bed. When he woke up, the house was on fire and he tried to escape. He succeeded.” With the help of neighbors who broke down the door, he was also able to hang his father. The child is not sure who started the fire suicide “A note was found which appeared to have been written by the mother,” an official said, adding that poison was also found in the house.
The residents rushed to the house around 11:15 p.m. on Friday after they were alerted by the screams of children and the fire at the house. The residents had to break open the door that was locked from the inside. One of the neighbors managed to get the children out, sources said, adding that they were immediately rushed to the hospital by the neighbors.
The police conducted the examination and post-mortem procedures and handed over the bodies to the relatives. The couple had been running a service center in Thuravur to help citizens with various government projects.
