Israeli ground operations against Hezbollah may have already begun, according to reports

After weeks of escalating tensions, Israeli forces are preparing for possible ground operations in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah positions along the border. Although Israel has not confirmed a full ground attack, two US officials have reported that smaller operations may have already begun, focused on neutralizing Hezbollah’s military capabilities near the border. The aim is to create conditions so that tens of thousands of northern Israeli residents displaced by the conflict can return home safely.

On Friday, Israeli airstrikes in Beirut killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and other senior commanders. The operation reportedly caught U.S. officials by surprise with just minutes of notice. This led to frustration within the US government as concerns grew about possible retaliation that could harm American interests in the region. Despite the assassination, US officials maintain that diplomacy is the only viable long-term solution, although military action could pave the way for negotiations.

Israel’s focus on Hezbollah is the result of years of intelligence gathering, including covert operations deep in Lebanon. Nasrallah’s death is seen as a major blow to Hezbollah’s leadership, but officials warn that his removal is not enough to completely neutralize the group’s threat.

Meanwhile, the US continues to express caution about a full-scale Israeli ground operation in Lebanon and push for diplomatic solutions while keeping communication channels open with Israeli officials.
