Medical call in Punxsutawney turns into assault charge – Connect FM | Local news radio

PUNXSUTAWNEY – What started as a simple doctor’s visit escalated into an assault charge in Punxsutawney last week.

Authorities were called to 504 Sutton Street for a possible overdose. 31-year-old Deanna Burkett’s boyfriend had difficulty waking her and called for medical help. After the evaluation, Burkett signed a denial of performance.

Not long after, police were dispatched to the same apartment for a report of a dispute. Authorities found Burkett walking down the street with a visible cut on his forehead.

It was alleged that after the paramedics left, Burkett got into an argument with her boyfriend because he had called for help. She then picked up a set of car keys and allegedly said she was leaving, but her boyfriend refused to let her leave in a drunken state.

Burkett then allegedly threw him the keys and began punching him in the face. She is also said to have hit him in the head, which resulted in a cut on his forehead.

Burkett denied the allegations, but two witnesses confirmed the story to authorities.

She was then taken into custody and charged with simple assault.

She has scheduled a preliminary hearing for Oct. 1.
