Return to Alpe d’Huez? The Tour de France will reportedly return to its most famous climb in 2025

Accordingly Le DauphinéIn 2025, the Tour de France 2025 will bring back one of cycling’s most iconic stages – the climb to Alpe d’Huez. The legendary climb, a fan favorite and a real test for riders, has not been part of the Tour since 2022, when Tom Pidcock took a stunning solo victory. The 2025 edition of the Tour runs from July 5th to 27th and with the return to Alpe d’Huez, anticipation is growing for what could be a crucial stage of the race.

Alpe d’Huez is synonymous with the history of the Tour de France. The 21 hairpin turns that lead up the 13.8km climb with an average gradient of 8.1% were some of the most dramatic moments in the race’s storied past. It was first introduced in 1952 when legendary Italian cyclist Fausto Coppi rode to victory and made the climb a legendary cycling route. Since then, it has become one of cycling’s most revered climbs, often serving as a battleground for contenders for the Tour’s yellow jersey. Riders who triumph here cement their place in Tour history.

The 2025 tour is also expected to return to Savoy, once again visiting the high altitude regions that offer spectacular views of the Alps. There are rumors of an Albertville to La Plagne stage, meaning the peloton could be in for another brutal day in the mountains, with Alpe d’Huez already in its legs.

Another notable feature of Route 2025 is the return to Paris for the traditional final day sprint. In 2024, the race final was postponed due to the Paris Olympics, but in 2025 the Champs-Élysées will once again host the prestigious sprint.

The official route will be unveiled in Paris on October 29th, but fans can already look forward to another exciting edition of the tour, with Alpe d’Huez likely to be a major highlight.
