Port Kaituma miner fined for assault on wife and drugs

Daniel Rodrigues, a 31-year-old miner from Port Kaituma, North West District, was arrested on September 25, 2024 and charged on Friday with drug possession and assault on a woman.

Police said yesterday that the accused appeared in the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court via Zoom conference from Port Kaituma police station before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh, where the charges were read out to him.

The defendant pleaded guilty to both counts and was fined $20,000 or one month in prison for each count, failing to pay the fines for a total of $40,000 or two months in prison.
