Meanwhile, long-running hits like Jung Hae In’s “Love Next Door” and the debut of “Iron Family” have catapulted K-dramas to the top of most-watched content on various OTT platforms outside of domestic television.

Iron Family debuts with strong ratings

KBS 2TV’s latest drama, “Iron Family,” starring Kim Jung Hyun, Geum Sae Rok, Choi Tae Joon and others, has successfully followed in the footsteps of their record-breaking hit “Beauty and Mr. Romantic.” According to Nielsen Korea, the premiere episode made a lasting impression with a promising start and achieved the highest ratings of any program that day. Iron Family posted an impressive national average rating of 14.1 percent, making it the most-watched show on Saturday.

The Iron Family storyline

Contrary to the title, which suggests strength and irony, “Iron Family” centers on the “clean laundry” family of Da Rim and her husband, who in reality launder money rather than do laundry. Written by Ask the Stars writer Seo Sook Hyang, this romantic black comedy will span 36 episodes. The story is about two families living next to each other: one is a classic Korean family structure, the other is about pretending to be a perfect family.

The Judge from Hell is receiving high ratings

New K-drama “The Judge from Hell,” starring Park Shin Hye and Kim Jae Young, achieved a nationwide average rating of 9.8 percent, marking its highest rating to date. The series debuted last weekend with two back-to-back episodes and follows Kang Bit Na, a devil from hell living in the body of a beautiful judge who is determined to send evildoers to their doom. Their ambitious mission meets Han Da On (Kim Jae Young), a detective known for his exceptional investigative skills. Together they embark on an unconventional journey full of intrigue and excitement

“Love Next Door” sees declining ratings

“Love Next Door,” starring Jung Hae In and Jung So Min, had a good start but is currently experiencing a slight decline in domestic ratings. Although it remains a close second in Netflix’s top 10 non-English language TV shows, surpassed only by one other Korean series, Culinary Class Wars, it averages a 5.4 percent rating nationwide.
