A man in his 20s who sexually abused a high school classmate and stalked him years later has been given a suspended prison sentence.

According to the legal community, on the 29th, the Criminal Division 4 of the Cheongju District Court (Judge Kang Hyun-ho) sentenced A, who was tried for violating the law punishing stalking crimes, to one year in prison and two years of probation.

He also ordered 40 hours of community service and 80 hours of lectures to prevent repeat stalking crimes.

Mr. A. was granted child protection because he sexually abused a student at the same school as a high school student in 2016.

Six years later, in 2022, he visited B and asked for an apology for his protection, but was rejected.

Since then, A has reportedly contacted or attempted to call B via text messages, Instagram, KakaoTalk and emails 32 times in a total of four months.

He was also found to have bullied B by sending threatening messages such as “I will ruin your life” and “I will make your life miserable”.

The court said: “Considering the method of crime and the circumstances of the accused, the crime is not good and the duration of the crime is not short. The victim is still complaining of mental pain and asking for severe punishment,” he said. “The verdict was decided taking into account the defendant’s thoughts about the crime and the fact that he was a first-time offender without child protection.”
