A former one Contract The worker was fired “within 15 minutes” of the company finding out operation they needed. The employee, a Cancer Survivor of 10 years, revealed their lease was terminated three months early because it would be at least a few months before they returned work.

The story came to light on the Antiwork subreddit, where the worker anonymously revealed why he was unemployed for the past month.

According to the post, the worker suffered an injury WorkHowever, since they suffer from a chronic illness, they are not entitled to compensation.

“I have been a cancer survivor for ten years,” they explained. “They put a brace in to stabilize my jaw, but my cancer metastasized, which led to huge radiation exposure to that area, which weakened the bone. Finally, about a month ago, I felt a popping sound while at work (customer service on the phone all day). That popping was due to the bracket breaking off my jaw, and now a screw is scraping my jaw instead of holding it together.”

The contractor was unpaid throughout this period due to the terms of his employment. However, it wasn’t until “yesterday” that they found out how long it would take until they were operational again.

The doctor estimated at least two months, as post-operative recovery alone takes about six weeks. It could take another month to get the patient back on schedule.

“I didn’t hear a word from the company the entire time, just three contacts from the account manager asking how I was doing and receiving scheduling updates. Within 15 minutes of receiving my notice of the surgery, this company decided to abruptly terminate my contract,” the post reads.

Not only has the worker not yet received his final paycheck, he said the layoff caused his health insurance to expire, meaning he must receive Medicaid before undergoing surgery.
