18-year-old victim dies several days after shooting in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – An 18-year-old died several days after he was shot in the 1300 block of Druid Park Avenue, according to authorities.

Jean Paul Magala, 18, was shot at least once on September 20 and was taken to Wellstar MCG Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is planned.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, 19-year-old Teric Ivey was arrested last Saturday after officers responded to the emergency room at Wellstar MCG Hospital regarding a walk-in gunshot victim.

While on scene, officers spoke with four victims who said they were dropping off a 15-year-old juvenile female at a home in the 1300 block of Druid Park Avenue when several unknown people came outside and began arguing with them.

According to the victims, during the argument, someone from the house began shooting at their car, striking the passenger side.

One of the victims said she sped away to escape the gunfire when they discovered another victim had been shot in the right side of the head, according to the incident report.

The victim told officers she immediately went to the emergency room so the gunshot victim could be treated.

Officials say that after a CT scan, doctors found that the bullet was still lodged in the right side of the victim’s head at the time of the incident.

According to officials, the three other victims were not injured in this incident.

The victims said they did not see who was shooting at them as they sought shelter in the car. According to officials, the gunshot victim was unable to speak at the time of the call because he was in the incubation phase.

According to officials, the car sustained damage to the right passenger door and a cracked windshield.

Ivey is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony.
