In Prairie du Chien, Trump promises to get illegal immigrant criminals out of the country

Trump in Prairie du Chien.

Former President Donald Trump spoke in the small Wisconsin town of Prairie du Chien, where a non-citizen is accused of violently attacking a mother and her daughter. He promised to abolish sanctuary cities and “free Wisconsin from this mass migrant invasion” of murderers, rapists and other illegal immigrant criminals.

“On November 15th, you have to vote for Trump because we are not going to let that happen,” Trump said, standing alongside Congressman Derrick Van Orden and Patty Morin. An illegal immigrant is accused of murdering Morin’s daughter, Rachel, while jogging in a Maryland park, and she implored Wisconsin voters to vote for Trump.

“I really believe he’s going to close our borders,” she said, describing her daughter as “the American mother.” She took care of her children. She worked hard. And her life was taken because of the open border.”

Every day leading up to the election, Wisconsin Right Now reported on a different case in which a non-citizen was being held by ICE in a Wisconsin prison for a serious crime. So far we have reported on:

    • Wilmer Yobany Martinez-Sanchez, who is accused of molesting an 8-year-old child in Brown County, Wisconsin, while a previous criminal case for theft was pending.
    • Nelson W. Mijango Santos, who is accused of partially “disemboweling” a man with a silver folding knife in a Madison parking lot before leading police on a dangerous chase.
    • Williams JA Monge, who is accused of repeatedly raping a six-year-old girl in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, leaving her covered in blood and in pain.
    • Fidel Martinez-Cruz is accused of sexually assaulting a woman he did not know in the sauna of a Hyatt hotel in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and in a second attack, sexually assaulting a young girl. Everyone has ICE arrestors with them.

“It’s crazy what’s happening to our country,” Trump said, wondering why the Biden/Harris administration would allow people into the country who have committed hundreds of thousands of violent crimes. Of these, 13,000 are murderers. Trump cited statistics the ICE chief provided to a congressman in a letter this week.

Flanked by posters of illegal immigrant criminals in Wisconsin, Trump said Harris “won’t change” and added that Biden/Harris had failed to secure the border. He said Prairie du Chien suspect Alejandro Coronel-Zarate was “accused of holding a mother and daughter captive against their will and sexually abusing them,” calling him a “vile monster.”

“He was arrested and released in the sanctuary city of Minneapolis, and by the way, I will destroy all sanctuary cities,” he said, adding that people want illegal immigrants out of the country; It’s the politicians who support sanctuary cities.

Wisconsin Right Now has taken the lead in reporting on the Coronel-Zarate case and obtained jail booking records showing that the Hennepin County Jail in Minnesota, where Tim Walz is governor, had him in custody for nearly three days, but then released him even released despite Madison having already established probable cause against Coronel-Zarate in a separate choking case. According to Prairie du Chien police, he crossed the border in 2023. Madison police have not explained why they did not arrest Coronel-Zarate when he was released from the Hennepin County Jail, where there is a rule in place Not to cooperate with ICE in cases where there is no warrant from an immigration judge.

Under Biden/Harris, the number of U.S. Border Patrol “encounters with migrants entering the United States from Mexico in December 2023” reached “the highest monthly total ever,” according to the Pew Research Center.

From 2006 to 2023, ICE arrested more than 14,000 noncitizens living in Wisconsin, according to Trac, a project that tracks immigration data.

According to Trac, a Syracuse University project, “50 percent more ICE detainees were released during the Trump presidency (fiscal year 2017 – fiscal year 2020)” than during the Biden-Harris administration.

Trump said Coronel-Zarate “assaulted another woman in the Dane County sanctuary.” Although Madison police and the Dane County sheriff never had Coronel-Zarate in custody (he never appeared in court when he was charged there), both jurisdictions do not always cooperate with ICE. For example, the Dane County Sheriff does not comply with all ICE requests and has been deemed uncooperative by ICE.

Trump said Coronel-Zarate then came “to this small, beautiful, idyllic town in Wisconsin.”

He cited several other cases across the state. Trump called the Biden-Harris immigration policy a “betrayal of every citizen” and said if it continues, “we will be turned into a third world hellhole.”

“I will not let this happen to Prairie du Chien,” he said.

Trump added that he knew the news media would say, “He’s a mean person,” but he said, “We have to take care of the people of our country.” Our country is being destroyed by these people. Are they stupid, are they evil, do they want us to be destroyed? It’s so obvious that it can’t work. Check out Springfield, Ohio.

WRN recently reported from Springfield, where we found citizens who said they had been displaced from jobs and homes.

“Look, you have to take these people back to where they came from,” Trump said. “You have no choice, otherwise we will see a crime like no one has ever seen before.”

He said the Republican Party had “become the party of common sense,” adding: “We’re not going to have men in women’s sports. We want a border, good education, low taxes and a strong military.”

He said the immigration bill, which Harris blamed on congressional Republicans for failing to pass, was a “terrible piece of legislation.” “It was so bad that two million people could have come into our country.” He said Harris could return to the White House and ask Biden to sign an executive order to close the border immediately.

Instead, she and Biden approved a program “to fly in migrants,” including in Haiti, in addition to the influx of illegal immigrants across the border. They “relocated almost five percent of the population of Haiti and six percent of the population of Honduras and Nicaragua,” he said. He also accused Harris of “losing migrant children.”

“Four years ago, I gave Kamala Harris the most secure border in history,” Trump said.

“She’s a disaster.” He said Harris had just visited the border because “her poll numbers are going down,” but added: “They need to get out and vote.”
